Excel I, Excel II, iPad basics, digital overview

UPPER BURRELL, Pa. -- Noncredit courses offered through the Office of Continuing Education at Penn State New Kensington include computer software programs, using an iPad, and digitizing documents. The courses, taught by Renata Bender, do not carry college credit and are designed to meet the needs of specific skill development.

The first two classes feature the software program Excel, an electronic spreadsheet application that organizes data into rows and columns, and performs mathematical calculations. Excel I runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m., May 7, 11 and 14, and costs $130. Participants can learn to create and format spreadsheets, enter data, and save files. Excel II is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m., May 19, 21 and 26 at a cost of $130. Adult learners can acquire the skills to use functions, formatting, text functioning, sorting, entering, and using multiple files and worksheets.

The next class, "Now You have an Apple iPad," is 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, May 28, The one-day course covers the basics of using an iPad, including surfing the internet, setting up an email account and taking photos. The cost is $50.

The last course offering is" An Overview of Today’s Digital Environment," which runs from 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 2. It will provide tips on being more efficient using digital technology. The cost is $65.
