UPPER BURRELL, Pa. -- Penn State New Kensington students and alumni can jump into the workforce to start a career or an internship at several job fairs and career events connected to the campus. From University Park to Upper Burrell, from Monroeville to Greensburg, small and large businesses will be looking to hire Penn State students.
The 2015-16 recruiting season features seven major events – Penn State Fall Career Days, Sept. 15-17; Alle-Kiski Job Fair, Oct. 1; WestPacs (Western Pennsylvania Career Services) Fall Job and Internship Fair, Oct. 14; Penn State Spring Career Days, TBA; Westmoreland Assists Native Talent (WANT) Job and Career Expo, Feb. 23; WestPacs Spring Job and Internship Fair, March 9; and Penn State New Kensington Career Day and Research and Creative Exposition, April 12.
Jim Shields, career services coordinator at the campus, encourages students searching for internships and post-graduation employment to take advantage of the opportunities. The Career Services' website is a source of information for the employment and internship events. Many employers want students and alumni to submit their resumes online before the fair with the possibility of setting up interviews on the day of the event.

Penn State Fall Career Days
Penn State's largest career fair, the annual Fall Career Days, runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday, Sept. 15 to 17, at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. More than 400 national and regional employers will be recruiting for internships and full-time and part-time positions in all technical and nontechnical majors. Fall Career Days is the best opportunity for all Penn Staters, students and alumni, to meet with major state and national recruiters. Not only is this an excellent opportunity to gain employment, but it is a great learning experience and offers "real life" practice for professional presentation, interviewing and networking skills.
Alle-Kiski Job Fair
The first local job fair for Penn State students and alumni is the eighth annual Alle-Kiski Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, in the New Kensington campus’ Athletics Center. Co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania CareerLink of Alle-Kiski, the job fair is free to the public, as well as to Penn State students and alumni. More than 50 recruiters are expected to be available to provide career options for those beginning a career or those seeking a change in vocation.
WestPacs Job and Internship Fair
More than 120 national and local employers offering internships and jobs will be on hand at the association’s Spring Job and Internship Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Pa. The fair is also scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9. Recruiters from a wide variety of industries, government agencies and nonprofit organizations will attend. The fair is geared toward fall and spring graduates and recent alumni with program certificates and degrees in all majors. Shields is the chair of the student marketing committee of WestPACS. According to Shields, the event features full- and part-time employment, internships and co-op opportunities, both regionally and nationally.

Penn State students and recent graduates can get a head start on the job market at the Westmoreland Assists Native Talent (WANT) Job and Career Expo from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Ramada Greensburg Hotel and Conference Center in Greensburg. The WANT job fair is designed to link the region's students and graduates with employers and careers in Westmoreland and surrounding counties. The job fair is open to the public. More than 70 employers will be on hand, and job seekers are encouraged to bring resumes and to dress professionally.
Penn State New Kensington Career Day
In conjunction with the research expo, Penn State New Kensington will host the sixth annual Career Day from noon to 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in the Athletics Center. Career Day complements the expo by creating new opportunities for the students and faculty to build stronger contacts with local industries through sharing of career information while also highlighting the campus' numerous research and creative activities. Representatives from more than 30 companies will discuss career options, internships and job opportunities for current students and recent graduates. Organizations attending Career Day represent a variety of fields, including business, engineering, science, information technology, psychology, marketing, administration of justice, communications, finance, accounting, social services and human services. The campus faculty is encouraged to attend as companies will focus on career paths within their organizations that relate to academic disciplines.
