An information session on Penn State New Kensington’s weeklong international trip to Ireland during the 2013 spring break will be held at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the campus, in Room 140 of the Science Building.

Faculty and staff organizers will provide details about the trip, including costs, deadlines, and the academic component that will be required for current students. Funding sources are available to students to help defray costs. The itinerary, March 2 to 9, features visit to the cities of Dublin, Killarney, Cork, and Kilkenney in the Republic of Ireland, and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

“The trip to Ireland is a great opportunity for students who have not traveled internationally before,” said Amy Rustic, reference librarian at the campus’ Blissell Library and a member of the International Trip Committee. “The trip will include many interesting stops and will be a great introduction to the culture of Ireland.”

For more information on the information session, contact committee co-chairs, Abhinav Aima, aka11@psu.edu or Gary Heberling, glh10@psu.edu via email.

The sojourn across the pond is a part of the Penn State Global Programs initiative that provides students with a variety of opportunities to study in foreign lands for varying periods of time--week, summer, semester, or full year. The objective is to offer our students a broader education than can be obtained through classroom experiences.

For the past six years, the campus has embarked on the promotion of greater awareness and understanding of world issues, international trends and global policy debates. Each year, the campus adopts a country or region of the world to inspire teaching and scholarship. Ireland and the United Kingdom are this year’s “Countries of Focus.”
