Alumni and friends of Penn State New Kensington are invited to expend a few shotgun shells at the inaugural “Sporting Clays” shooting competition at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s Field Club Complex.

A form of clay pigeon shooting, the 100-target team competition is geared to shooters of all skill levels. Clays at each station provide a variety of angles, speeds and sizes that are as unpredictable as real birds. Four-person teams in carts will make the rounds of 10-15 stations.

Using the Lewis Class Scoring System allows shooters from novice to expert to form a competitive team of four shooters. Individual shooters will be assigned a team. The format is akin to a golf scramble except participants are shooting “birdies” with shotguns and shells instead of irons and putters.

The cost is $150 and includes lunch, shooting, cart, and awards. Ammunition is not included but can be purchased on-site. Various packages are available including foursomes, event sponsorships, and lunch sponsorships. Donations for door prizes and raffles are welcome. All proceeds benefits the campus’ "For the Future" campaign.
