Continuing Education offers noncredit summer course on project management

Project Management for Non-Project Managers

8:30 a.m. - noon, Wednesday-Thursday, June 18-19

Professionals needing career development can hone their skills during the summer 2014 session at Penn State New Kensington.

The Continuing Education Office sponsors a noncredit course in June on project management. "Project Management for Non-Project Managers" runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday-Thursday, June 18-19, in the campus Conference Center. The class is designed for non-project managers and emphasizes strategies for identifying high-impact projects, resourcing allocations, and planning and implementation.

“The course is for managers, staff members, and administrative assistants who wish to acquire the necessary skills to successfully manage small to medium sized projects or who would like to learn more about the fundamentals of project management in order to improve business performance,” said Pat Hollinger, co-director of continuing education.

Topics covered will include:
- Project Management Overview
- Why Projects Fail
- Using Value to Establish Priorities
- Understanding Barriers
- The Project Plan
- The Value Grid
- Metrics for Success
- The Project Timeline
- Resource Allocation
- Aligning Priorities

The cost is $195 and includes materials. The course does not carry college credit.
